Single and Multi-Specialty Surgery Centers
Woodrum/ASD restructured, joint ventured and currently manages a 6 room ambulatory surgery center in Jackson, Mississippi which is a joint venture between a major health system in Mississippi and 23 surgeons. Woodrum/ASD was involved in all aspects of this project including structuring and consummating the joint venture, arranging financing, and re-licensing the center as a freestanding ambulatory surgery center. Woodrum/ASD has managed this center since 1999. THE SURGERY CENTER OF FARMINGTON Woodrum/ASD represents a physician group and an affiliate of Barnes Jewish Christian Hospital System. The firm developed and manages a 10,000 square foot, 2 operating room, 2 procedure room ambulatory surgery center in southern Missouri. This is the first joint ventured ambulatory surgery center for the BJC Health System and will serve as the initial project for an ambulatory care campus in the Farmington area. Woodrum/ASD was responsible for working with the physicians and the hospital from the genesis of the project to develop the legal and operational structure, perform a financial feasibility analysis, and perform an operational audit of the surgery unit in the local hospital. Woodrum/ASD has managed this center since 1998.
Woodrum/ASD developed and manages this single specialty endoscopy surgery center in Bryan, Texas. This project is attached to a new Medical Office Building in Bryan which is a 11,000 square foot facility housing the physician offices and the surgery center. Woodrum/ASD performed the financial feasibility analysis for the project, implemented the legal and operational structure and is the developer and manages the surgery center which opened in February 2000.

CENTER Woodrum/ASD developed and now manages this 30,000 square foot surgery center in Carrolton, Texas. Woodrum/ASD performed the financial feasibility analysis for the project and implemented the legal and operational structure. Woodrum/ASD has managed this center since 2002.
Woodrum/ASD developed and now manages this 3 room aesthetic plastic surgery center devoted exclusively to cosmetic and plastic procedures. The center is unique in that it is the first of its kind in southeast Texas which incorporates numerous plastic surgeons at one location. The center was developed as a "Center of Excellence" for outpatient cosmetic surgery. Woodrum/ASD has managed this center since 2002. ROANOKE
AMBULATORY SURGERY CENTERRoanoke, Virginia Woodrum/ASD developed and manages this 4 room multi specialty surgery center in Roanoke Virginia. The center is a joint venture between local surgeons and Carillon Health System. Woodrum/ASD was involved in aspects of the development process including assisting in obtain the CON, drafting of the business plan, arranging financing, supervision of construction and design, and implementation of the business and clinical systems. Woodrum/ASD developed this three-operating room, two procedure room musculo-skeletal ambulatory surgery center in Northeastern Wisconsin. The center is owned by eight orthopedic surgeons in three separate groups, working through an Independent Practice Association (IPA) and an anesthesiologist. The ASC is coupled with physician offices, M.R.I. and physical therapy. Woodrum/ASD supervised the planning, construction, design, managed care contracting, and implementation of the business and clinical systems for the ASC. Woodrum/ASD currently provides advisory management services to the ASC.
Woodrum/ASD developed the three operating rooms, two procedure rooms, multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center in a western suburb of Chicago. It is a joint venture between 25 surgeons and Provena St. Joseph Hospital, a member of the Provena St. Joseph Health System. The surgery center is located on the first floor of a medical office building that is attached on two levels to the hospital in such a way that it facilitates the efficient movement of the surgeons and anesthesiologists between the surgery center and the hospital. Woodrum/ASD supervised the planning, design, financing, construction, obtained the managed care contracting and implemented the business and clinical systems. Woodrum/ASD has managed this ASC since 2006.
Woodrum/ASD was retained to develop this four-room, two procedure room, free standing, multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center in December 2005 for 20 surgeons and the Methodist Hospitals, Gary, Indiana. The development assignment included developing and implementing the business and clinical systems, initiating the managed care contracting process, and overseeing the equipping of the center. This process was completed in September 2006 with the receipt of the ASC license and the Medicare certification. In May 2007 Woodrum/ASD was retained by the Board of Managers to provide turnaround management.
Woodrum/ASD is developing this six-operating room (4 procedure room) multi-specialty surgery center in the urban area of Montgomery, Alabama. The ASC is a joint venture between the Jackson Hospital and Clinics and 43 physicians. The ASC will be operated as a separate, hospital outpatient surgical department- with the surgeons and the hospital managing the ASC in an “under-arrangements” relationship. Woodrum/ASD is supervising the planning, design, financing, construction and implementation of the business and clinical systems for the project. Woodrum/ASD will provide the management.
Woodrum/ASD managed the hospital’s outpatient surgery department consisting of three operating rooms for St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital, part of Ascension Health. Included, in addition, are a separately developed and operated pain center and a separately operated digestive disease center. Currently, there are 18,000 cases performed annually. Woodrum/ASD converted the 31,000 square foot, hospital, outpatient surgical department to a joint venture, free standing ASC between St. Mary’s of Michigan and 19 physicians. The surgery center is part of a 100,000 square foot multi-ambulatory care center (MACC- located on the outskirts of Saginaw) which includes a full imaging center, laboratory, lithotripsy, free-standing emergency room, and 23 short-stay beds. Woodrum/ASD manages the new joint venture.
Woodrum/ASD planned, designed, financed, obtained managed care contracting, and implemented a one-room, musculo-skeletal ASC (and one procedure room) for four orthopedic surgeons. Spine surgery also is performed in the center. The ASC is part of a new free standing office complex consisting of clinical space, MRI and physical therapy/occupational therapy. Woodrum/ASD provides advisory management services.
Woodrum/ASD currently is developing a two-operating room, two-procedure room ambulatory surgery center located on the southern edge of Carson City, Nevada. The ASC is a joint venture between Carson- Tahoe Hospital, CASCI (an incorporated physician group that owns and manages a surgical specialty building adjacent to the Carson-Tahoe Hospital) and several other physicians. Woodrum/ASD is supervising the planning, financing, design and implementation of the business and clinical systems, and will manage the ASC. The ASC will be part of a multi-ambulatory care center (MACC) consisting of physician offices and imaging. The MACC will be owned by the physicians and the hospital in a separate joint venture. Opening is scheduled for February 2008.
SURGICENTER OF DOTHAN Developed 12,500 square foot facility. Syndicated business to 20 physicians. Developed all operating systems. Produced patient information brochures. Facilitated extensive contracts with business and industry. Developed several new services as added revenue sources.
HOLT-KROK CLINIC Holt-Krock Clinic engaged Woodrum/Ambulatory Systems
Development for multiple consults related to their ambulatory
business. Hold-Krock clinic is PhyCor, Inc.'s largest clinic
in the U.S., and has over thirteen locations in Arkansas and
Oklahoma.
BEVERLY HILLS-WILSHIRE Obtained Medicare for freestanding 9,000 square
foot surgicenter. Developed all clinical, business office,
and operating systems. Hired and trained business office manager.
Produced patient information brochures. Set-up financial operating
systems, and provide periodic consultation for same.
Woodrum/ASD represented the largest orthopedic group in Sarasota in the
development of this center. The multi-specialty center has 17,000 square
feet with five operating rooms. The center opened in October, 2002.
Woodrum/ASD represented a physician group and two local health systems in
the feasibility and development of this 10,700 square foot facility. This
multi-specialty center has three operating rooms and one treatment room.
Woodrum/ASD worked on this project from its genesis and assisted in the
legal and operational structure. Woodrum/ASD now manages the surgery center
which opened in December, 2002.
ST. LUKE'S METHODIST
HOSPITAL Woodrum/ASD developed a 12,000 square
foot ambulatory surgery center and medical office building. The firm
structured the transaction, performed the negotiations and assisted the
hospital through the entire pre-development process. Woodrum/ASD developed
and implemented all operating systems for this single specialty ophthalmic
ASC. Woodrum/ASD developed and managed this
15,000 square foot multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center and IVF
laboratory. The center is located within a multi-service ambulatory
building which includes physician offices, a pharmacy and other ancillary
services. SURGICENTER OF BALTIMORE Assisted an entrepreneurial group of 27 physicians
with financial planning, joint venture structuring and development
of planned 12,000 square foot ambulatory facility. The facility
has a surgery center, GI lab, and laser institute. Health Specialists, P.A., a group of 35 physicians, contracted
with Woodrum/ASD to provide the following services:
Woodrum/ASD developed and managed this
surgery center in Mankato, Minnesota. This project is a joint venture with
a 90 man clinic and a large orthopedic group. Woodrum/ASD provides management
consulting services to an ambulatory surgery center devoted to endoscopy
services in Jackson, Mississippi which is owned by Jackson Medical Clinic,
the largest group practice in Mississippi. Woodrum/ASD worked on this
project from its genesis and assisted in valuing, acquiring and
re-licensing the surgery center which was formerly a hospital based
freestanding outpatient unit.
SKAGGS COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER Conducted a feasibility study and business plan
for a free-standing ambulatory surgery center and oncology
services in a newly-planned 60,000 square foot, multi-service,
ambulatory building to be developed on the campus of the hospital.
Conducted personal and phone interviews with 15 surgeons and
oncologists. Analyzed market shares from two counties, outmigration
trends, and developed a demand analysis model used for the
projections and business plan. Also developed a joint ownership
structure for the ASC between the local surgeons and the hospital.
Business plan included costs for equipment, space program,
Safe Harbor and joint ownership options for the hospital,
complete financial projections for three years showing all
start up costs, profit and loss statements, volume, cost per
case, and utilization by surgical specialty, and cash flows

ALLIANCE AMBULATORY SURGERY CENTER Coordinated all activities with the turn-key development of a hospital-based surgery center. Services include 4 Orthopedics, GI, Pain Management, Pre-Admission testing areas.
Woodrum/ASD developed and licensed a freestanding ambulatory surgery center in Bismarck, North Dakota for St. Alexius Hospital. The facility is a four room multi-specialty facility. Woodrum/ASD was involved in all aspects of the project including structuring, planning and developing the facility.

NORTH TEXAS UROLOGY AND GI CENTER Woodrum/ASD developed and managed this 7,000 square foot, 2 operating room, 2 procedure room ambulatory surgery center in Arlington, Texas for a physician group and local hospital. Woodrum/ASD worked with the physicians and the hospital from the project's inception to develop the legal and operational structure, perform a financial feasibility analysis, and perform an operational audit of the surgery unit in the local hospital.
WEST TEXAS AMBULATORY SURGERY CENTER Woodrum/ASD developed and managed a 21,000 square foot multi-specialty surgery center in Odessa, Texas. ASD was engaged by a large physician practice management group to completely re-engineer the surgery center including reworking all operational, and financial aspects. Within 4 months, ASD was able to return the surgery center to profitability and is currently preparing to offer ownership in the surgery center to local physicians to create a long term relationship and bond to the surgery center with the physicians.

OF LYNCHBURG Woodrum/ASD developed and managed a 15,000 square foot, 3 operating room, 1 procedure room ambulatory surgery center in Lynchburg, Virginia for a physician group and local hospital. Woodrum/ASD was responsible for working with the physicians and the hospital from the beginning of the project to develop the legal and operational structure, perform a financial feasibility analysis, and perform an operational audit of the surgery unit in the local hospital.
OKLAHOMA CITY CLINIC Conducted feasibility study for a group-practice-owned surgery center. Study included the assessment of capital needs, equipment, working capital, performance requirements, business assumptions, and patient fees. PORTAGE SPECIALTY PHYSICIANS Coordinated the activities associated with obtaining Medicare certification of a surgery center.
OCHSNER CLINIC Coordinated all activities associated with the turn-key development of a hospital-based surgery center. Planned financial feasibility, assisted in legal structuring and facility layout design.
KANSAS SURGERY AND RECOVERY CENTER Coordinated all activities associated with the turn-key development of a hospital-based surgery center. Facility contains 4 operating rooms, 6 recovery care (72 hour) beds, physical therapy.
DIAGNOSTIC CLINIC Prepared the feasibility study for adding a surgery center into the existing group practice. The study analyzed capital needs, performance requirements, investor projections, and cash flow planning for the facility. In the developmental phase, ASD recruited the architectural firm which coordinated the total development of a freestanding 10,000 square foot surgery center on the practice site. ESCONDIDO SURGICAL CENTEREscondido, California Marketing strategy was reviewed with the surgery center's medical director, and improvements resulted from on-site consultation services. New ideas for increasing the center's service mix were developed. A comprehensive review of center operations fostered extensive recommendations regarding the business office, payroll, budget and financial planning activities, accreditation preparation and external marketing.
ANAHEIM MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER Evaluated the feasibility of implementing a
surgery center and physician requirements for space in an
existing, but empty ambulatory medical office building.
Interviewed physicians, evaluated financial projections of the
facility and the surgery center, and made recommendations to the
Medical Center regarding how to broaden the base of physician
that might use the surgery center and take space in the building. Elm Grove, Wisconsin Analyses of utilization patterns and clinic operations were provided through on-site consultations. The feasibility of adding a surgery center to the service package was evaluated.
